ISAF - International Security Assistance Force

ISAF

Croatia started to participate in the ISAF peacekeeping operation in February 2003 by sending a military police platoon comprising 50 CAF members. This is the largest and the most demanding peace support operation in which CAF members have been participating. In accordance with the Decision issued by the Croatian Parliament on 10th December 2010, up to 350 CAF members can be deployed to participate in the ISAF peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan in 2011 and 2012. The 19th Croatian contingent (HRVCON) comprising 332 CAF members is currently deployed to two Regional Commands - Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif (Regional Component North). The largest HRVCON component in the ISAF peacekeeping operation is an infantry company securing Camp Marmal (Regional Command West), while the most demanding component comprises Operational Mentor and Liaison Teams (OMLTs), Police Operational Mentor and Liaison Teams (POMLTs), ANA helicopter pilot training mentor team, ANA CSS Logistics School instructor team and MP training instructor team. CAF members share their kniowledge and experience with the Afghan National Army and National Police, thus helping its members to develop operational capabilities for planning and carrying out their tasks. Members of the Croatian Armed Forces also work as staff members in ISAF Regional Commands.
