LESSONS LEARNED IN CAF

In the CAF, organic units dealing with gathering and analysis of combat experience, was formed in 2000. Nowadays, it exists on all CAF levels and its concept is based on documents and concept of NATO JALLC (Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC)) situated in Lisboa, Portugal.
Lessons Learned Section, as a part of Training and Course Division at IMOTC, deals with collecting, processing and saving information from various sources such as IMO, exercises, training events, analyses.
Lessons learned are checked and confirmed for positive or negative experiences from training, IMO, or developed as a result of analyzing military history. Lessons Learned Section provides support to IMOTC in analyzing operations, training and exercises, implementing new SOPs, updating curriculums, as well as their application in providing guidelines for the improvement of the unit training and readiness. Lessons Learned Section manages the process of integration of new ideas in order to improve training process.

TRAINING / COMBAT EXPERIENCE FORM

You can send your observations and recommendations directly to IMOTC, and they are to be filled as follows:

TITLE

SOP, TRP the mission is related to and it enables selecting and saving the lessons in database.

OBSERVATION

Explains what was observed and what was the main problem.

DISCUSSION

The cause, circumstances and consequences of an event are noticed during the discussion. Positive experience is distinguished from the negative and facts (pro and contra) are given to define the problem.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommendations are the advice for future work offering tactical and technical procedures to improve abilities and readiness, as well as the advice how to avoid wrong actions.

EXAMPLES OF LESSONS LEARNED

The presentation provides 3 examples how the MP unit, the first unit sent to ISAF mission in Afghanistan, solved certain problems related to training, equipment and capabilities.
