Klapa* of the Croatian Navy

At the beginning of 2001 Klapa "St. George" was founded as an initiative supported by the Military bishopric and its vicar general monsingore Josip Šantić and of several staff members from the navy base Žrnovnica, else active singers in several Dalmatian choirs and Klapas.
Klapa has successfully been representing Croatia and its Armed Forces at the International Army Meeting in Lourdes for three years, where about 30.000 soldiers from all over the world participated at the opening ceremony of the Basilica of Pius X.svijeta.
The French Army and its Military bishopric have honored the group several times not only for performances in French Army camp, but also for those in hospitals and reception centers for sick and disabled pilgrimers in Lourdes.

In June 2002 Klapa also participated at the International Festival in Boleslawiec, Republic of Poland, where it won gold.
Apart from a huge number of performances abroad, the outstanding ones were given in the officers club "Lora", Split, thus marking the Day of the Croatian Navy, the Day of the military chaplaincy of the 4th area command Knin and the Forth Guards Brigade, as well as several performances for the Split-Dalmatian Police department during the celebration of St Michael, the patron of police.

On Thanksgiving Day (5 August 2002), which is also the feast of Dedication of Basilica of St. Mary Major, the heavenly patroness of the military bishopric, Klapa took part in the Mass in St. Marco's Church in Zagreb, together with the brass-ensemble of the CAF symphony orchestra. They not only performed the hymn of the military bishopric, but also an a cappela version for male choir of the Croatian Mass by mongisnore Šime Mavrović.

In cooperation with the publishing department of the Croatian MOD and the Military bishopric, Klapa released a CD promoted at the EMPA and during the European meeting of military journalists held from 29 September to 3 October 2002 in Split.
On the 10th jubilee pilgrimage of Catholic members of the army and police forces to Marija Bistrica, on 6 October 2002, Klapa led the Mass celebration to a general satisfaction of a few thousands soldiers and police men present, and of those who watched the live broadcast on Croatian television.
Klapa also participated at the traditional "Holiday Concert" of the CAF symphony orchestra, which was held in Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, Zagreb, on 23 December 2002.

Marking the 5th anniversary of founding Military college "Ban Josip Jelačić", Zagreb, on 19 April 2003, Klapa thrilled senior CAF officers with its performance and in a special way representatives of the diplomatic corps in the Republic of Croatia. Whereupon some of them expressed desire for engaging the Klapa in their missions.
Klapa nurtures the tradition of Dalmatians songs in its repertory, patriotic and sacral compositions and folk songs from Lika.
The artistic director is maestro prof. Vladan Vuletin
